Residency Project

“The survival of the art of theatre depends on its capacity to reinvent itself by embracing new tools and new languages.”
Robert Lepage, World Theatre Day Address 2008

Backbone Youth Arts and Queensland Theatre Company are partnering to present a four day residency for emerging performance makers in September. The event will be held at Queensland Theatre Company’s Billie Brown Studio in South Brisbane. The primary focus of the project will be the exploration of contemporary performance techniques and a reimagining of what theatre is in the 21st century, particularly for young people. Three senior artists will work with the participants to explore and devise a series of short works.  The participants will have technical support from QTC technical and production staff.

The senior artists are Andrew Cory from Backbone Youth Arts, Damien Cassidy from Queensland Theatre Company and independent performance maker and choreographer Clare Dyson.

The residency will culminate with two performances to students of the 2010 QTC Theatre Residency Week and then to industry personnel the following night.

Backbone Youth Arts will host a blog page on our website to document the process. Please drop in and feel free to add to the discussion.

When: 15th – 21st September, 2010
