Profile: Andrew Cory

Artistic Director

Over the last fifteen years, Andrew Cory has worked professionally in Australia, Asia and in Europe as an actor, a movement director and a clown. He has worked with a number of independent and professional companies in Australia including The Queensland Ballet, Queensland Theatre Company, The Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Opera Queensland and The South Australia State Theatre Company.Andrew has studied at Ecole Philip Gaulier (London), Centre Selavy Mask School (France), Todo Performance Academy (Denmark) and the School for Mime Theatre (USA). In 2002 Andrew received a professional development grant from Arts Qld to pursue his clown studies at Bont’s International Clown School (Spain).

Andrew has been a movement and theatre tutor for the Acting Department of Queensland University of Technology, NIDA Extension Program, Griffith University, Shafston University and the Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts (ACPA).

In 2003 Andrew started his company Red Spoon to produce original works inspired by movement and clown. Red Spoon has co produced three international collaborations with Singaporean artists. In 2007 he was appointed as the Artistic Development Coordinator of Backbone Youth Arts. Andrew was a member of the Youth and Education Reference Group at Queensland Theatre Company from 2007 till 2009.

Andrew commenced work with Backbone in 2007 and has been Artistic Director since 2009.
